      Producer Information

Founded in 1981, Frog’s Leap is a leading wine estate based in Rutherford in the Napa Valley. It is particularly known for its Cabernet Sauvignon and also produces one of California’s top-rated and most serious Sauvignon Blanc wines. There are 40 acres (16 hectares) of vines on the estate property, plus 52 acres (21 hectares) at the Rossi Estate on the Rutherford Bench. Frog’s Leap also sources grapes from several leased plots and long-term contracted vineyards. All the vineyards owned by the estate and the partner growers have been farmed organically since the late 1980s, and many aspects of biodynamics are implemented. Cover crops and insect borders are used to encourage biodiversity. Frog’s Leap’s flagship wine is its Cabernet Sauvignon, which is now grown on the Rossi Estate vineyard, and has been estate-grown since 2012. The Sauvignon Blanc is also made from estate fruit in Rutherford, while the Chardonnay is sourced from the well-known Truchard Vineyard in Carneros. The Zinfandel, which is restrained in style compared with many from the region, is co-fermented with a significant portion of Petite Sirah, Carignan and also some Valdiguie. The portfolio is completed by a Rutherford Merlot, a Petite Sirah and the Provence-style rosé La Grenouille Rougante Pink. The business was founded by John Williams and Larry Turley in 1981 at the latter’s property in Napa, which had formerly been a frog farm. The first release was a Sauvignon Blanc and a Zinfandel made from fruit purchased from Spottswoode.
