Rum Nation are an Italian Independent bottler headed up by Fabio Rossi. It was formed in 1999 and has the tagline Single Domaine Rum. In keeping with many Independent bottlers Rum Nation do not give specific information on the distillery and or still. In most instances you just get the country of origin. This rum was released in 2014, unlike the 2015 and 2016 release it is not marked as an solera rum. So this is a rum which should be wholly at least 18 years old………It is likely that this rum hails from the Don Jose Distillery in Panama – home of Ron Abuelo.

Rum Nation 18 Year Old Release 2014 Panama Rum Tasting Notes

Nose: Soft, deep, warm but not exceedingly buttery. Sun-dried raisins, dates, coffee and a winey touch.

Palate: Very sweet but well balanced by the tannic and balsamic influence of the oak. Intense, aromatic, rich on liquorice, chestnuts, dried plums, and the typical note of molasses, with a touch of vanilla.

Finish: Getting spicier and spicier: black pepper, a hint of cinnamon and beeswax. Red Virginia tobacco. In the end, though, the sugarcane molasses win.

Distillery Information

Don Jose Varelo Blanco founded the Republic of Panama’s first sugar mill in 1908. Nearly three decades later his three sons persuaded him to set up a distillery and in in 1936, Hermanos Veralo was built. Better known as Distilleria Don Jose, today this is run by the third generation who grow their own yeast cultures in the distillery’s laboratory and are best known for their Ron Abuelo.
