Distillery Information

Gray’s Distillery makes high-quality rum in Mauritius, in the Indian Ocean. While not as famous as some Caribbean distilleries, it is known for rums that reflect the local environment. The distillery started in the early 1930s and is still family-owned. The Gray family used Mauritius’ sugar cane to build a lasting distillery. Sugar cane is key to Mauritius’ economy. Gray’s uses local sugar cane, giving their rums a Mauritian character. The distillery makes rum using traditional and new methods. They use column and pot stills for different rum styles. The rums are aged in oak barrels, which add depth and smoothness. Mauritius’ warm climate speeds up the ageing process. A special feature of the rums is the use of local natural resources. They use water filtered through volcanic rocks and local spices and fruits. This gives the rums a unique Mauritius taste.
